Mammoth Lakes, Calif. – UCLA Cross Country commences its 2022 fall season with a dual meet against UC San Diego on Thursday, Sept. 1, in Mammoth Lakes, Calif. The Bruins and the Tritons open the season against each other for the second-consecutive year.

Last Meeting with the Tritons –  2021 Mammoth Tri-Meet
UCLA began the 2021 campaign with a pair of team victories in the tri-meet against UC San Diego and UC Riverside. The Bruin men took the first six finishing positions in the 5k, and the women placed five runners in the top seven of the 4k race to secure the victory.
The 2021 opening performance marked the third-consecutive time the UCLA men notched a sweep in the team's season-opener. The Bruins went 1-5 at the Arizona Invitational two seasons ago (Feb. 5, 2021) and secured the first 10 positions in the team's dual meet against UC Riverside on Aug. 31, 2019.
Veteran Runners
Redshirt junior Peter Herold led the Bruin pack last season, finishing as UCLA's top runner in each of the four races he ran in 2021. Rising junior Ronan McMahon-Staggs also put up strong performances on the men's side, most notably finishing in first in the 5k to open the 2021 campaign in Mammoth. McMahon-Staggs finished as a top three scorer for the Bruins in all of his races last season.
Graduate student Gwyn George returns for the UCLA cross country team after a senior campaign that saw George as a top-2 finisher for the Bruins on three of her races. Claire Selleck returns for her senior season, looking to build upon the success she saw in 2021.
