STANFORD, Calif. – No. 1 Texas spoiled No. 12 Stanford's home opener, defeating the Cardinal 25-18, 25-18, 25-20, Sunday, at Maples Pavilion.

Texas (4-0) out hit Stanford (3-1), .365 to .192, showcasing its offensive firepower. The Longhorns also play scrappy defense, holding a 44-35 advantage in digs and an 8.0-7.0 edge in blocks.

Senior opposite Kendall Kipp led the Cardinal with 14 kills, four digs, two blocks and an ace. Junior libero Elena Oglivie collected a match-high 13 digs and had a season-high three assists.

It was the first loss in a home opener under sixth year head coach Kevin Hambly. The Cardinal is now 57-7 overall at Maples under Hambly.

Outside hitters Caitie Baird and Elia Rubin combined for 16 kills, 10 digs and three blocks. Rubin tallied the Cardinal's other ace.
 

Stanford's middles were limited to just nine attempts each. Redshirt junior McKenna Vicini totaled three kills and three blocks, while sophomore Sami Francis had two kills and a team-high four blocks.

Sophomore setter Kami Miner finished with 30 assists, five digs, a block and a kill. Sophomore Taylor Beaven and freshman Kelly Belardi combined for three digs off the bench. Freshman Anna Pringle made her Maples debut in the third set, registering an assist.
 

Texas was led by outside hitter Logan Eggleston's match-high 16 kills, seven digs and three blocks. Madisen Skinner and Molly Phillips had 10 kills apiece for the Longhorns.

Stanford hits the road next week, traveling to Minneapolis for the Big Ten/Pac-12 Challenge, Sept. 9-10. The Cardinal faces No. 21 Penn State on Friday and No. 4 Minnesota on Saturday.
