Liberty Ricca and Alexe Coursol go to Brazil for FISU World University Championships

MACEIO, Brazil – Sun Devil triathletes Alexe Coursol and Liberty Ricca will make their way down to South America for the Triathlon World University Championships on Sept. 9 and 10.

"We're very proud of both Liberty and Alexe representing their countries and ASU at the FISU World University Championships in Brazil," head coach Cliff English said. "It's a great opportunity for them to race at the international level at a World Championships. It's a part of our team mission that our athletes have the chance to compete in the NCAA and on the world stage for their respective countries."

Ricca will be representing the United States and Coursol will race under the Canadian flag.

Brazil is the home of the 2022 World University Championships which only occur every two years, but with COVID-19, the last championship was held in 2018. 

According to the official website, the women's individual competition will follow the rules of the International Triathlon Union (ITU), which are as follows: 750m swimming, 20km cycling and 5km running. More information about the race can be found here.
