Bruins Begin Season at USF Intercollegiate

LOS ANGELES – The No. 5-ranked UCLA women's golf team begins its 2022-23 season at the USF Intercollegiate hosted byOlympic Club Invitational in San Francisco, Calif. on Monday, Sept. 12. The two-day, 54-hole stroke play event opens with 36 holes on Monday and ends with 18 on Tuesday.
The tournament plays a par 71 and has a course yardage of 5,976. The Bruins will begin in a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. PT.
UCLA Lineup: Annabel Wilson, Caroline Canales, Emilie Paltrinieri, Ty Akabane and Alessia Nobilio.
Individual Competitors: Phoebe Yue and Yuki Yoshihara.
Field: San Francisco (host), Pepperdine, Santa Clara, BYU, No. 9 San Jose State, Gonzaga, Oregon State, California, No. 5 UCLA and Colorado. *

Course History: The Bruins will be competing on The Olympic Club's Ocean Course, opened officially in May 1924. The course underwent a total reconstruction under course architect Tom Weiskopf in 2000.
The Olympic Club has hosted a myriad of major professional and amateur tournaments. Most recently, the Olympic Club's Lake Course hosted the 2021 U.S. Women's Open on its Lake Course. The USGA recently announced that The Olympic Club will be the host of the 2030 U.S. Women's Amateur. On the men's side, The Olympic Club has hosted five U.S. Opens and two PGA Tour Championships.
A Glance at the Bruins
Five returners – sophomores Zoe Antoinette Campos, Caroline Canales and Alessia Nobilio, junior Ty Akabane and senior Emilie Paltrinieri – all played in at least 10 of UCLA's 14 events from the 2021-22 season.
Canales led the Bruins' trio of talented freshmen last season with a 74.0 scoring average and five rounds under par. Matching Canales with four top 10 finishes was Nobilio, two of which came in her first two collegiate events
Offseason Competition
At the 122nd U.S. Women's Amateur at Chambers Bay, Annabel Wilson became the first UCLA semifinalist since Lilia Vu in 2017. Wilson never trailed her opponent in the match play portion until the semifinal round, racking up monster victories in the first round (4&3), second round (3&2) and quarterfinals (3&1).
Akabane and Campos also qualified for the U.S. Women's Amateur. Akabane earned her spot with a 4-under 67 at the Country Club of Salisbury and Campos with a 2-under 69 at Las Posas Country Club.
Canales was a semifinalist in the match play portion of the 56th California Women's Amateur in San Luis Obispo, Calif. after tying for 6th (+2, 146; 71-75) in stroke play out of the field of 124.
Most recently, Nobilio won the English Women's Open Amateur at Beau Desert Golf Club in Hazelslade, England in playoff fashion after forcing extra holes with birdies on the 71st and 72nd. Nobilio also tied for 23rd at the European Ladies' Amateur with a 7-under performance over four rounds (69-72-69-73).
Paltrinieri reached the quarterfinal round of the R&A Women's Amateur in Hunstanton, England after victories in the first (3&2), second (1 hole) and third rounds (2&1).
