Park Leads Strong Finish At Annika Intercollegiate

Sep 14, 2022

LAKE ELMO, Minn. - Transfer Ashleigh Park fired a 2-under 70 in Wednesday's final round of the Annika Intercollegiate at Royal Golf Club, helping the Ducks move up two spots and finish sixth overall in their first tournament of the 2022-23 season.

Oregon posted its best round of the week with a 3-under 285, finishing at 2-over par overall. Wake Forest won the team title at 6-under par, with Texas in second at -2 and Virginia third at -1.

"It was great to be back on the course competing this week, especially against such an elite field," head coach Derek Radley said. "I'm proud of our group for making adjustments and improving each round, and there are certainly some areas we feel we can go back and work on in practice. I'm really proud of our two newcomers who competed this week – Ashleigh and Anika (Varma) – they both did a great job of adjusting after the first round and really performed well yesterday and today. We've got a good group and I'm excited to see us grow throughout this fall season."

How it Happened: Park impressed for the second straight round in her first tournament as a Duck since transfering from Texas. The junior was 3 under through 14 holes before making her lone bogey of the day, but she bounced back with three pars to finish 2 under.

Park tied for 12th overall at 1 over for the week, matching returners Ching-Tzu Chen and Hsin-Yu (Cynthia) Lu for the top spot among Ducks. Lu bounced back from a 3-over 75 on Tuesday with a 1-under 71 on Wednesday, and Chen came in with a 1-over 73.

Freshman Anika Varma also put together her second strong performance in a row, making six birdies to finish under par for the first time in her collegiate career with a 71. Varma fired an even-par 72 in round two and finished tied for 29th overall at 5 over.

Briana Chacon rounded out the Oregon lineup with a solid 2-over 74, tying for 35th overall at 6 over.
