Cross Country Gets Ready for UC Riverside Invitational
RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The University of Arizona Cross Country team will compete in its second event of the season at the UCR Cross Country Invitational hosted by UC Riverside on Saturday, Sept. 17.
The meet is scheduled to start at 7:15 a.m. MST with the women's 6000m invitational. Following that, the men's 8000m invitational will begin at 7:50 a.m. MST. The event is located at the UCR Agriculture Operations Course and live results for both events can be found here.
This is the team's second competition of 2022, following the season opener at the George Kyte Invitational in Flagstaff, Ariz., where both the men's and women's teams placed second overall. The men's squad was led by four freshmen finishing in the top 25 in the 4.5-mile, with Cooper Quigley crossing the finish line first for the team. On the women's side, Grace Driskill placed first for the squad in the 2.5-mile with a new PR and was also one of the team's five top-20 finishers.
Head Coach Bernard Lagat is looking forward to the opportunities awaiting in Riverside. "The cross country team is ready to get tested with some PAC-12 competition," said Lagat. "We want to familiarize ourselves with this course so that we will be very well prepared for Pac-12 Championships in October. Everyone has been training well and we are all looking forward to showing what we got." He also added, "We have 6 freshmen on the men's side and 4 women competing in their first year with the University of Arizona. I'm really excited to see this team come together."
Last season the women's team finished third overall and the men's team finished seventh overall at the 2021 UC Riverside Invitational.
A meet recap will be posted to ArizonaWildcats.com detailing the competition results. Live updates will also be posted to @ArizonaTrack on Twitter.
