Sienkiewicz Shoots Cats' Lowest Score to Wrap Up Fighting Illini Invite
OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. – Arizona Men's Golf wrapped up its second event of the season, the Fighting Illini Invite, in a tie for eighth place with Baylor at 18-over par. The Wildcats improved their performance in the tournament by six places from a year ago. Senior Chase Sienkiewicz carded the Cats' best round on Sunday with a 2-under round of 68.
"This week will be a great learning experience for our entire team moving forward," said head coach Jim Anderson. "We had some ups and downs throughout the tournament, but our guys kept at it and battled until the end. We saw everyone in our lineup card quality scores in various points in the round, which is something we can grow from and develop."
Freshman Filip Jakubcik, who tallied Arizona's lowest score in Friday's opening round, finished as the team's top finisher in a tie for 26th at 5-over par for the tournament. He finished in the top 10 of the 78-player field in par-3 scoring. Sienkiewicz finished one stroke behind him, which was good for 31st place. The senior was Arizona's lowest scorer on par 5's for the event at 3-under par.
The Wildcats will now look ahead to their third event of the season next week in a return to the Midwest. Arizona will participate in the Folds of Honor Collegiate in Grand Haven, Michigan, beginning on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at American Dunes Golf Club.
