Pukis, Colyer Earn Pac-12 Weekly Awards
EUGENE, Ore. – Powered by their individual efforts and supported by the team's 2-0 weekend at the Hurricane Invitational, setter Hannah Pukis and outside hitter Mimi Colyer have been named Pac-12 Offensive Player and Freshman of the Week, respectively.
Monday's announcement marks the first-career honor for Pukis and the third freshman selection for Colyer in four weeks.
Pukis averaged 12.00 assists per set over the weekend while directing the UO offense to a .407 hitting percentage during the Hurricane Invitational. She dished out 38 assists in the Ducks' straight-set victory over South Carolina. In the match, Oregon hit .368 (45-10-95) and no player had more than two attack errors. Pukis added four digs, three kills of her own and two blocks.
The Tacoma, Wash., native closed out the non-conference slate with 46 assists, nine digs and six kills in the Ducks' four-set win against host Miami. All five primary attackers had at least six kills including three in double digits and each finished with a .308 or higher hitting percentage. Collectively, Oregon hit .440 (58-10-109) as a team.
Over the course of the weekend in Coral Gables, the Ducks added nearly 30 points—from .252 to .281—to their season hitting percentage.
Colyer put down a match-high 16 kills coupled with a .500 hitting percentage (16-2-28) in Sunday's four-set road win over Miami, and did not commit an attack error until the third set. The outing was her third of the year with 10+ kills to go along with a .400 or higher efficiency. She tacked on three digs and three blocks in the match.
The UO freshman standout opened the weekend with a match-leading and season-high six blocks in a sweep of South Carolina. She was part of the team's defensive effort that limited the Gamecocks to a .103 hitting percentage. Colyer added four kills in the weekend-opening victory.
Through the first four weeks of the 2022 campaign, Colyer ranks ninth in the Pac-12 at 3.22 kills per set.
Colyer and Brooke Nuneviller remain the only duo in the Pac-12 ranked inside the league's top 10 for kills per set. Nuneviller is fourth overall at 4.16 kills per set, and also ranks 10th in the Pac-12 with 3.22 digs per set. Oregon is also the only team in the league with two players among the top 10 in digs per set. Libero Georgia Murphy is fifth at 3.56 digs per set.
Thanks in part to a recent hot streak—hitting .464 over her last three matches—senior opposite Gloria Mutiri is 10th in the Pac-12 with .336 hitting percentage. She had a season-high 13 kills in the sweep of South Carolina.
In Monday's release of the AVCA national poll, the Ducks check in at No. 21 ahead of Pac-12 play. The team opens conference play Wednesday at Oregon State with first serve scheduled for 7 p.m. at Gill Coliseum. Oregon then returns home to host fifth-ranked Stanford on Sunday inside Matthew Knight Arena.
