Cross Country Travels to Oregon for Bill Dellinger Invitational

LOS ANGELES – UCLA Cross Country heads to Springfield, Ore., to compete in its second meet of the 2022 fall season at the Bill Dellinger Invitational hosted by the University of Oregon on Friday, Sept. 23. The Bruins will run at the meet for the third time in four years.
Meet Information
The men will run an 8,000m course at 11 a.m., followed by the women's 6,000m race at 11:45 a.m. on Friday. Live results can be found on Athletic Timing, and a live stream will be available on RunnerSpace with a paid subscription.
Results will be posted to at the conclusion of the meet.
Course Description
The Pine Ridge Golf Club, formerly the Springfield Golf Club, is one of Oregon's premier golf courses and will be the site of the Bill Dellinger Invitational. Athletes will race entirely on grass and mostly on fairways. The course consists of two relatively flat loops—an outer loop, and a finish loop. The outer loop is approximately 2320 meters in length, and the finishing loop is approximately 1350 meters in length.

Last Time Out – 2022 Mammoth Dual Meet
The Bruins earned men's and women's victories over UC San Diego at the 2022 Mammoth Dual Meet on Thursday, Sept. 1. UCLA had five of the top six runners in both the women's 3k and the men's 4k races at the Whitmore Recreation Area.
2021 Dellinger Invite
The Bruins finished in eighth as a team on the men's side and 14th on the women's side at the 2021 Bill Dellinger Invitational. Peter Herold led the pack as UCLA's top runner with a 15th-place finish on the 8k course (23:35.7), followed by Darius Riley (23:43.2) in 27th. Andrew Martinez (24:07.9), Munir Kabbara (24:14.6) and Ronan McMahon-Staggs (24:15.3) rounded out UCLA's scoring five.
The women's team finished in 14th place at last year's invitational with two Bruins crossing the line in the top 50 runners. Audrey Allen led the Bruins with a 46th-place finish after finishing the 6k course in 21:02.1. Emma Tavella followed closely behind, finishing in 49th place with a time of 21:04.3. Alyssa Bautista (21:19.5), Claire Selleck (21:22.3) and Ashley Johnson (21:43.2) all scored for the Bruins with their sub-22-minute finishes.
Notes on the Bruins

  • With the men's victory at the UCSD Dual Meet in Mammoth Lakes, Calif., the Bruins have earned season-opening sweeps in four-straight seasons.
  • The win marks the third-consecutive season in which both the men and women have claimed victory in the season opener.
  • Senior Emma Tavella returned to the top of the podium the UCSD Dual Meet after a strong 2021 campaign – Tavella finished as UCLA's first or second runner in each of her four meets during her junior season.
  • Junior Michael Mireles made his return to competition with a victory in the men's 4k at Mammoth Lakes after sitting out the 2021 season. Mireles won the men's 8k in his debut at the 2020 Arizona Invitational as a true freshman.
