SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The Arizona soccer team opened Pac-12 competition on Friday, falling to Utah in a 2-1 decision.

Arizona struck first in the 13th minute with a few well-placed passes to set up the goal. After a missed shot by the Utes, the Wildcats were able to move the ball across the midfield line where Gianna Christiansen took control. The sophomore midfielder passed to Sami Baytosh, who passed it back to earn the assist on Christiansen's goal, the first of her career.

Utah equalized the score in the 19th minute with a goal by Taliana Kaufusi, but neither team took the lead going into halftime.

The Utes scored off of a corner kick in the 53rd minute with Madeline Vergura taking the corner and Maryn Granger  sending the ball into the net.

The Wildcats took two more shots in the remaining 37 minutes, but the team came out of the second period with three shots to Utah's seven.

A trio of saves in the match brought goalkeeper Hope Hisey's career total to 255, moving her to fifth in program history in career saves.
