Third-Set Tiebreaks Help Propel The Buffs

SAN FRANCISCO — The University of Colorado women's tennis team competed here Friday in the consolation bracket at The Battle In The Bay Classic.
Senior Antonia Balzart took down Yinglak Jittakoat of Cal State Fresno in a thrilling three-set tiebreak. Balzart fell behind early, dropping the first set 6-3. She then battled back, taking the second set 7-5. In the deciding third set ten-point tie break, Balzart fought to a 9-9 tie before taking the final two points to come out victorious at 11-9.
Junior Aya El Sayed defeated Silvia Maria Costache of The University of Kansas in another three-set nail biter. El Sayed started out strong, taking the first set 6-4. Costache then fought back in the second set, winning it 6-3. In the third set tiebreak, El Sayed battled to win the tiebreak and the match 10-8.
With those wins, both Balzart and El Sayed have moved into the quarterfinals of the constellation bracket tomorrow. Balzart is set to face off against Mariana Manyoma Velasquez of Kansas, while El Sayed will be matching up against Nathalie Rodilosso of USC.
