BOISE, Idaho – On day two of the Barb Chandler Classic, the Utah Women's tennis team's representatives, Katya Hersh and Samantha Horwood, were defeated by the host team, Boise State.
"Today was not the standard that we expect of ourselves," remarked head coach Ric Mortera. "However, that is the great thing with these fall events is we get teh opporutnity to work through obstacles we may be facing with our games and find ways to adjust and continue to improve. I look forward to seeing how well we can finish the weekend tomorrow."
Hersh and Horwood joined forces to start the tournament's second day with doubles. They played Boise State's Pauline Ernstberger and Holly Stewart and were defeated, 6-3.
Needing to win both singles matches to win the mini draw, the Utes Hersh and Horwood took to the court. Hersh took on Stewart in singles, while Horwood went up against Ernstberger. Horwood lost to the Bronco, 6-2, 6-1. Hersh was defeated by Ernstberg, 6-1, 7-5.
The Utes will compete for third place in the Blue Draw on Sunday of the Barb Chandler Classic.
