Freshmen Power Arizona's Low Scoring Round

Sep 27, 2022

GRAND HAVEN, Mich. – Behind a pair of subpar rounds from the freshman duo of Filip Jakubcik and Zach Pollo, Arizona Men's Golf rose to a tie for third place at 7-over par on the second day of the Folds of Honor Collegiate. Jakubcik carded a three-under round of 69 on Tuesday, which was a tie for the second-lowest round of the day.

"We executed our game plan better today than yesterday and posted quality scores," said head coach Jim Anderson. "It was awesome to see our two freshmen go out there and shoot low scores that really help us set the tone. We continue to make good adjustments from round to round, and I expect more of the same in tomorrow's finale."

Jakubcik, who shot 73 on Monday, now sits in a tie for sixth place at 2-under par. Pollo's 1-under round on Thursday included his first collegiate eagle on the 553-yard, par-5 sixth hole. He now sits in a tie for 15th place at 2-over. Senior Chase Sienkiewicz is Arizona's third player in the top 20 after two days after sinking four birdies on the back nine to get to 3-over for the week. He also bolstered his position as the top player in the field in par-3 scoring.

The Wildcats are tied with Liberty for third place at 7-over and trail second-place Florida State by three strokes. The team also a two-stroke advantage over Kansas and a three-stroke edge over Oregon State who trail on the team leaderboards heading into Wednesday's final round.
