Lasco Named King Of The Pool

SAN LUIS OBISPO – Three-time NCAA champion Destin Lasco was named King of the Pool at the Cal men's swimming & diving team's 2022-23 season-opener on Friday at Cal Poly's Anderson Aquatic Center.

Lasco's combined time of 4:04.23 was the best of any swimmer over five 100-yard events – the butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle and individual medley. Sophomore Robin Hanson was second with a mark of 4:12.34.

Lasco had Cal's fastest time in the 100 back (47.19) and 100 individual medley (48.52) while placing second behind teammate Jack Alexy in the 100 freestyle with a time of 43.63.

Junior Dare Rose was the Bears' top finisher in the 100 butterfly (48.30) and sophomore Jacob Soderlund took top honors in the 100 breaststroke (55.07).

Lasco is the defending NCAA champion in the 200 backstroke and has also won national titles in the 400 medley relay and 400 free relay.

The Bears return to the pool on Oct. 12 for their home opener against Utah.
