EUGENE, Ore. – The 2022 fall men's tennis schedule kicked off over the weekend, with groups going to Boise, Idaho and Tulsa, Oklahoma for a pair of tournaments.
Returners Luke Vandecasteele and Avi Shugar were joined by newcomers August Gustafson and Russell Soohoo in the Dar Walter's Classic in Boise. Gustafson and Vandecasteele teamed up and won consolation matches against Utah and Idaho, while Shugar and Soohoo defeated a pair from Eastern Washington. The matches featured one doubles and two singles contests with the team winning two of the three advancing in the tournament. Gustafson won all three of his singles matches.
The first major tournament of the season, the ITA All-American Championships, takes place October 1-9 in Tulsa, Okla. Joshua Charlton and Quinn Vandecasteele each picked up singles victories in the tournament, both against opponents from Florida State University. Vandecasteele also defeated an opponent from Texas Tech in the qualifying round.
Freshman Vlad Breazu won his first two matches of the tournament before fatigue cost him his third. Jesper Klov-Nilsson won three pre-qualifying matches, dropping his fourth match in the qualifying round. Ivailo Keremedchiev picked up a win in the pre-qualifying consolation round.
The Ducks will now travel to Gonzaga to take part in the ITA Northwest Regional tournmanet from Octover 6-10.
