Fall Schedule Set For Sand Devils

TEMPE, Ariz. – The Sun Devil Beach Volleyball program is already gearing up to get back on the sand with the fall tournament slate set. Beginning in mid-October thanks to new NCAA rules, the Sand Devils schedule includes three in-state pairs tournaments, with a matchup in Tucson and one at Grand Canyon, as well as one at home. 
 
In May of 2022, fall competition was expanded to allow for multi-day pairs tournaments during the non-championship season. The proposal, passed by the NCAA Division I Council, allows up to four multiple-day pairs tournaments for beach volleyball players during the non-championship season, which mirrors a structure already in place for men's and women's tennis. These competitions will be based on individual pairs instead of the standard team events. The proposal allows for student-athletes to participate in multi-day events by eliminating the restrictions on missed class and transportation.  

Arizona State will kick off the season against pairs from the Wildcats in a tournament at University of Arizona on October 15-16, with more matchups to be announced. ASU will then return to Tempe on October 29 to host the Sun Devil Beach Volleyball Pairs Tournament, its only home tournament of the season. 
  
Following the home opener, the Sun Devils will play in the Lopes Invitational on November 5-6, hosted by Grand Canyon University. While most of the Sand Devils will be competing in this tournament, one pair will be in Huntsville, Alabama, competing in the inaugural AVCA Fall Collegiate Beach Championships. This tournament will feature pairs from 64 of the top schools in the nation based on their 2022 Spring season. It will kick off with 4-team pool play on November 4th, of which the top 3 will move onto single-elimination bracket play on November 5th and 6th.
