No. 6 USC Football Hosts Washington State In Primetime Matchup At Coliseum

*For the second week in a row, USC plays at home in the Coliseum.

*The Trojans take on the Washington State Cougars on Saturday (Oct. 8).

*Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. PT and the game will be broadcast nationally on FOX.

*The Trojans improve to 5-0 on the season. USC is 1 of 16 teams to remain undefeated in 2022, and 1 of 4 in the Pac-12 Conference.

*USC remains ranked No. 6 in the latest AP Poll.

ARIZONA STATE GAME RECAP

*QB Caleb Williams had an impressive game going 27-of-37 (.730) for 348 yards and 3 TDs to lead the Trojans to a 42-25 victory over Arizona State in the Coliseum.

*Williams' 348 passing yards and 27 completions are single-game bests this season.

*Williams also rushed for 44 yards on 8 carries with 1 TD. This was his third rushing TD of the year.

*USC is 5-0 to start a season for the first time since going 5-0 during the 2020 season, before falling in the Pac-12 Championship game.

*USC's 5-0 start is its fourth in the last 27 seasons (2005, 2006, 2020 & 2022). The last time USC started a season 6-0 was the 2006 season. That team finished 11-2 overall, with a Pac-10 co-championship, a win over Michigan in the Rose Bowl and a No. 4 final AP ranking.

*USC has now scored 30 or more points versus Arizona State in nine of the last 11 meetings between the two schools. USC has also scored 40 or more points versus Arizona State five times in the last 11 meetings.

*Before his third quarter interception, QB Caleb Williams briefly held the longest active streak in the FBS for most consecutive pass attempts without an interception at 215. The turnover was also USC's first of the season. Before the INT, USC was the last remaining team in the FBS to have zero turnovers.

*The 17 first-half points scored tonight by ASU were the most by a Trojan opponent in the first half of a game this season.

*WR Jordan Addison led USC with 8 receptions and 105 receiving yards. This was his second 100-yard receiving game this season.

*RB Travis Dye led USC with 62 yards rushing and 2 TD runs. Dye now has a team-leading 5 rushing TDs this season.

*WR Kyron Hudson's 2-yard TD reception in the fourth quarter was his first career TD catch. He finished with 3 catches for a career-high 46 yards.

*WR Brenden Rice had 3 catches for a season-best 72 yards.

*WR Mario Williams had 5 catches for 50 yards and a 7-yard TD reception. The TD was Williams' second of the season.

*USC's 3rd down conversion rate against the Sun Devils (.889) was the best single game 3rd down conversation rate for the Pac-12 Conference since 1996.

WASHINGTON STATE SCOUTING REPORT

*QB Cameron Ward went 27-of-40 (.675) for 343 yards and 3 TDs and 2 INTs as Washington State defeated California 28-9 in Pullman, Wash.

*WR Renard Bell caught 8 passes for 115 yards and a TD.

*The Cougars are now 4-1 overall and 1-1 in Pac-12 play.

*Washington State has played 4 of its first 5 games at home.

*RB Nakia Watson led the team with 52 rushing yards on 14 attempts against the Golden Bears.

*DB Jaden Hicks tallied 10 tackles to lead the Cougars defensively.

Williams had replaced Clay Helton, who was relieved of his duties at the start of the week. Washington State had a 14-0 lead late in the first half, but USC roared back by scoring 45 unanswered points behind backup freshman QB Jaxson Dart to post a 45-14 victory. It was USC's most consecutive points scored since the Trojans beat UCLA, 50-0, in 2011. USC's 38 second half points were its most in a half since getting 38 versus Idaho in 2015 and most in a second half since getting 42 at Hawaii in 2005. USC ended up with 447 total yards (just 48 rushing) and 24 first downs while converting 7-of-14 third downs and getting 4 turnovers. London had 13 catches for 170 yards and 2 TDs, all career highs. S Chase Williams and S Xavion Alford each had a team-best 6 tackles. USC had 3 sacks. USC had a scare when it landed in Lewiston, Id., the day before the game. After the players deplaned from the front part of the charter, the plane's tail end crashed down and sent the nose rising up in the air, with coaches and staff still on board. *USC defensive coordinator Alex Grinch held the same position at WSU for 3 seasons (2015-17). The 2017 Cougars were 16th nationally in total defense (323.3) and ninth in both passing defense (170.9) and turnovers gained (28) as he was a Broyles Award semifinalist.

*USC assistant head coach, outside receivers coach and offensive passing game coordinator Dennis Simmons was the outside receivers coach at WSU for 3 years (2012-14). In 2016, WSU's outside linebackers combined for 16 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks and six turnovers, while they combined for 26.5 tackles for loss, 12 sacks and 146 tackles in 2015.

*USC inside linebackers coach and associate head coach for defense Brian Odom was a defensive quality control assistant at WSU for the 2015 and 2016 seasons.

*Defensive GA Payton Pelluer was a linebacker at WSU for 6 seasons (2013-18), where he appeared in than any player in program history (with 47 starts). He had 352 career tackles, including 35 for losses, 6.5 sacks, 5 forced fumbles, 5 fumble recoveries and 2 interceptions. In 2018, he was Defensive MVP of the Alamo Bowl.
