USC's Skylar Fields Garners Pac-12 Women's Volleyball Player of the Week Honors
SAN FRANCISCO – USC women's volleyball senior outside hitter Skylar Fields (Missouri City, Texas/Ridge Point HS) was named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 26-Oct. 2, the Conference announced on Monday, Oct. 3.
It is Fields' first-career Pac-12 weekly award, but she received the Big XII's Offensive Player of the Week twice while at Texas. For the Trojans, Fields' selection is the 81st all-time weekly award won by a USC player and the first since Emilia Weske was chosen for the same honor on April 5, 2021. Last season, setter Mia Tuaniga earned Pac-12 Freshman of the Week recognition, but freshman awards are not counted in a school's official weekly award tally.
Fields leads the Pac-12 in kills (259), kills per set (4.71 kps), points (283.5), and points per set (5.15 pps). She helped lead the Women of Troy to a pair of wins with 49 kills (6.13 kps) on .282 hitting. Fields had 25 kills against Colorado and 24 more against Utah with a career-high 69 attacks and career-best 28.0 points. She reached double-digit kills for the 14th time in 15 matches this season and produced her fourth straight 20-plus kill match (sixth of the season).
Since 2011, when the Pac-12 began honoring separate offensive and defensive players of the week and introduced a freshman award, Trojans have earned 24 offensive awards, 11 defensive awards, and 20 freshman honors.
USC claimed a pair of four-set wins over the weekend to improve to 11-4 overall and to 3-1 in Pac-12 contests. The Trojans head to the desert this week for a pair of Pac-12 matches. USC takes on Arizona (11-4, 1-3 Pac-12) on Friday (Oct. 7) at McKale Center in Tucson, and then heads to Tempe for a matchup with Arizona State (8-8, 2-2) at Desert Financial Arena on Sunday (Oct. 9).
