Barcos, Johnson, Watts all finish in Top 20 at Hamptons Intercollegiate

Oct 4, 2022

EAST HAMPTON, N.Y. – Three Utes picked up spots inside the top 20 led by Javier Barcos' seventh place finish as the University of Utah men's golf team completed the final day of play at the Hamptons Intercollegiate, which came to an end on Tuesday at the Maidstone Golf Club.
Barcos posted the Utes' first top 10 finish of the season by grabbing a share of seventh and he was able to move up three spots after carding a 3-over 75. Barcos made par on every hole on the front nine and capped his day with four more pars, giving him a tournament-best 39, to complete the event at 8-over. This is the junior's fourth career top 10 finish.
Four strokes behind Barcos sharing 14th was Davis Johnson, who recorded his highest collegiate finish. Johnson brushed off a difficult first half of his round to shoot 1-over on the back nine, including birdies on the 15th and 16th to enter the clubhouse at 8-over, putting his 54-hole score at 12-over.
No Utah player had more birdies on Tuesday than Braxton Watts, who collected four while posting a 4-over 76 that propelled him up nine slots into a tie for 16th. Watts was 2-over on both the front and back nine and finished the day with back-to-back birdies, leaving his tournament score at 14-over. Watts piled up a team-high nine birdies across all three rounds.
Martín León tied for 38th at 23-over and Hunter Howe placed 47th. Playing as an individual, Brandon Robison tied for 52nd. Utah's team score of 54-over landed them in sixth.
The Utes will not have to wait long to hit the links again, as the schedule takes them to Corvallis, Ore., the site of the Oregon State Invitational on Oct. 10-11.
