Sophomore Jieming Yang had Cal's second-best round on Tuesday.

Graduate student Annika Borrelli shot even-par Tuesday and stands in third place at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational, hosted by the University of Arkansas.

Borrelli is at 1-over par for the tournament, trailing leader Andrea Lignell of Ole Miss by five strokes and three shots behind Mississippi State's Julia Lopez Ramirez for second.

The Bears are in seventh place out of 11 teams in the overall standings.

"Annika is managing her game really well," Cal head coach Nancy McDaniel said. "She is one the top players that is definitely worthy of being in this position. It's just about managing her game and taking it shot by shot, and seeing how the scorecard adds up at the end."

Junior Cristina Ochoa is the Bears' next-best individual at 11-over par, which puts her in a tie for 33rd in the 57-player field.

Sophomore Jieming Yang had Cal's second-best round Tuesday, carding a 5-over 77 which was an improvement of four strokes over her first round score.

Scores have been high at the challenging, 6,422-yard Blessings Golf Course. Ole Miss leads the tournament at 15-over par. The Bears are at 36-over par as a team.

Only two individuals in the field are under par for the tournament.

"Our spirit has been really good. We aren't getting too down," McDaniel said. "This course has teeth. The team has been resilient. We just have to keep it simple and go out tomorrow and take it one shot at a time. You can't get ahead of yourself, because the course will jump out and bite you."

The Bears tee off for the third and final round Wednesday at 7:15 a.m. PT.
