Men’s Tennis Competes on Day One of the ITA All-American
TULSA, Okla. – The Utah men's tennis program sent two team members to compete at the ITA All-Americans this week in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Both players will continue to compete in the consolation draws after a tough competition on day one of the Main Draw.
Utes Franco Capalbo and Geronimo Espin Busleiman qualified for the tournament's main draw in both doubles and singles. Capalbo competed against Stefan Hampe from Tulsa and, despite taking the first set, lost the second and third to the opponent for a final score of 1-6, 6-4, 6-1. Capalbo will continue competing tomorrow in the consolation draw, where he'll face Harris Walker from Harvard.
Espin Busleiman confronted No.9 ITA-ranked Tyler Stice from Auburn. After dropping the first set, 7-5, he bounced back in the second set and won 6-0 to force a third set. After trailing 5-2 in the third set and winning the next two games, reaching 5-4, Espin Busleiman lost the match after a tough fight. The final match score was 7-5, 0-6, 6-4. Action will continue tomorrow in the consolation draw, where Espin Busleiman will play against Connor Di Marco from Tulsa.
The duo then proceeded to play their first round of doubles matches. They faced Max Westphal and Theo Winegar from Columbia and, after a close match, lost 6-4, 7-5. The duo will compete against FSU Seminoles Youcef Rihane and Alex Bulte.
Utah will be back in action on Thursday with singles starting at 10:30 a.m. Doubles will begin around 2:30 p.m. MT.
