Beach Dawgs Start First Fall At Alki This Weekend
SEATTLE -- All roads are open to the Husky Beach Volleyball Team as it begins its first year of fall competition this weekend at Alki Beach in West Seattle. The West Seattle Bridge recently completed renovation, making the trip over much quicker, while the forecast calls for sun and mid-70s. Washington will welcome in Oregon, Boise State, Portland, and Corban University for the first Alki Collegiate Pairs Tournament.
Match play is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8, and should run into the late afternoon. Saturday is round robin pool play competition while Sunday will then be bracketed based on Saturday's results. Sunday is scheduled to start at 8:45 a.m. and final matches are slated for approximately 3 p.m.
This is the first season of fall competition in NCAA Beach Volleyball, and the focus is on pairs tournaments, as opposed to dual matches. The Alki Pairs Tournament is separated into Gold and Silver divisions. The Gold division has eight pairs split into two pools, and the Silver division will have 20 pairs, in five pools of four teams each.
In this first weekend of competition, Washington will get to see a lot of new faces as the team brought in eight new beach-only players, seven transfers and one freshman. The planned pairings for the Huskies this weekend are All-Pac-12 Second Teamer Chloe Loreen and Teagan DeFalco, and Natalie Robinson with Piper Monk-Heidrich in the Gold division. In the Silver division, UW has entered Kendall Mather with Scarlett Dahl, Paloma Bowman with Mary Sinclair, Maia Nichols with Reagan Peterson, and Hannah Yerex with Shannon Gormally.
