Espin Busleiman Wins in Tulsa; Men’s Tennis Heads to Idaho State

SALT LAKE CITY – A busy weekend continues for the Utes as Geronimo Espin Busleiman earned a win in the ITA All-American Consolation draw, while four players head to the Bengal Invitational hosted by Idaho State in Pocatello.
 
ITA All-American
The Ute duo Franco Capalbo and Geronimo Espin Busleiman continued action at the All-American Championships today.
 
Espin Busleiman showed a stellar performance, pulling through a three-set match and finishing strong with a victory. He challenged Connor Di Marco from host Tulsa. Espin Busleiman dropped the first set 3-6 and looked to push the match into three sets for the win. He won the second set 6-2 and claimed the victory in set three winning 6-3.
 
Espin Busleiman will continue competition in the round of 16 in the consolation draw. His opponent will be Henry Schulenburg from Harvard, who also won today's round with a close three-set match.
 
Capalbo retired from his first match of the day against Harvard's Harris Walker during the fifth game of the first set. With the retirement, the Utes duo withdrew from doubles.
 
Bengal Invitational
Besides competing in Tulsa, the Utes will have four at the Bengal Invitational hosted by Idaho State in Pocatello. Berk Bugarikj, Dylan Applegate, Rian Ta, and Geremia Rossi will represent the Utes.The tournament page can be found by clicking here. 
 
After a weekend full of action at the Dar Walters Invitational, the Bengal Invite competitors look to get more victories under their belt in preparation for the highly anticipated spring season.
 
Bugarikj, Applegate, Ta, and Rossi will make up the Ute quartette in Idaho. The team will face competitors from host Idaho State as well as from Idaho and Montana. Bugarikj will have his collegiate debut during this tournament.
 
Matches are set to begin at 9 a.m. MT from Friday Oct. 7 to Sunday Oct. 9, 2022.
