Hockey’s Minnesota Trip Continues at Bemidji State

Oct 6, 2022

BEMIDJI, Minn.– After facing off against No. 5 University of Minnesota Duluth, the Arizona State men's ice hockey team (0-2-0) completes its Minnesota road trip with two games against the Bemidji State Beavers (0-0-0) at Sanford Center on October 7-8. Puck drop for Friday's game is scheduled for 5:07 p.m. MST, while Saturday's puck drops an hour earlier at 4:07 p.m. MST. Both games are available to stream with a FloHockey subscription.

ASU is fresh off of two losses against top five ranked UMD, yet the Sun Devils pushed the envelope with the Bulldogs, dragging the season opener into overtime in AMSOIL Arena last Saturday night. Despite the two losses, transfer goalie TJ Semptimphelter recorded 77 saves between the two games and notched a .917 save percentage.

Alternate captain and graduate forward Demetrios Koumontzis also recorded his first goal of the season in game two. The fight against the Bulldogs was his first series back since suffering from an injury late in the 2021-22 season.

Bemidji State floated in and out of the rankings last year and many of the Beaver's top scorers from the 2021-22 season have since moved on, including Lukas Sillinger, who jumped ship to join the Sun Devils this summer and will face his former team for the first time this season. Sillinger netted a goal in his debut with ASU on Oct. 1 vs. UMD.

Last season, the Sun Devils faced the Beavers twice at home and ultimately split the weekend. This time around is the team's first stint in Bemidji's home rink since the 2015-16 season which included two shutout losses during that span.

After this series, ASU returns to Tempe for the highly-anticipated home opener at the brand-new state-of-the-art Mullett Arena against Colgate on Oct. 14-15.
