USC Women's Swim and Dive Captures Team Championship at SMU Classic.
USC women's swimming and diving turned in their first victory of the season on Saturday, Oct. 8, capturing the women's team championship at the SMU Classic Invitational in Dallas, Texas.
The Women of Troy won four events on Saturday to secure the team title and outscore Texas A&M, Louisville, Michigan, Missouri, Miami and host Southern Methodist.
Trojans Hanna Henderson, Kaitlyn Dobler, Anicka Delgado and Elise Garcia opened the second day of action with a win in the 200y medley relay, combining to post a 1:37.78.
Sophomore distance specialist Marlene Kahler kept the team's momentum going, claiming the 500y freestyle in 4:46.14. Kahler's time earned her an NCAA B-standard cut.
Next up, it was Isabelle Odgers' turn, with the fifth year turning in a 2:10.52 (NCAA B-cut) in the 200y breaststroke to win the event. She'd later touch second in the 200y IM (1:58.64), wracking up enough points to claim the SMU Classic high point award.
In the 200y backstroke, Hanna Henderson claimed the B-final in 1:55.90 (NCAA B-cut), while freshman Ashley McMillan would touch fourth in the championship final (1:57.21).
Trojan Lina Sculti emerged victorious in the women's 1-meter event, taking first with 293.95 (NCAA Qualifying score).
USC wrapped up the afternoon with a second place finish in the 200y freestyle relay, as Trojans Delgado, Henderson, Garcia and Dobler posted a 1:29.82.
Next up, the Women of Troy return to Los Angeles for their home opener next weekend as they host the two-day, three-session USC Invitational at the Uytensu Aquatics Center. Both the men and women are set to face swimmers from Auburn and UC San Diego.
