THIS WEEK
After leaving the foul weather of the east coast behind them, the University of Utah men's golf team is about to participate in a tournament on the opposite side of the country, as the Oregon State Beavers will host the Utes and 13 other teams at the Oregon State Invitational, which will take place at the Trysting Tree Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday in Corvallis, Ore.

In October of 2021, the Utes played 54 holes at the 2021 Oregon State Invitational and took third place in Corvallis. Tristan Mandur's mark of four-under led the way and earned him a third-place finish, while Blake Tomlinson and Jesper von Reedtz took spots in the top 20. The final round saw von Reedtz card a 1-under 70, the second-lowest score of his sophomore season.

THE FIELD
It will be a crowded field at this invitational, with Utah competing against a list of teams that includes Oregon State, Boise State, Cal State Fullerton, Gonzaga, Idaho, Kansas State, Pacific, Sacramento State, Sam Houston State, Seattle, Southern Miss, Tarleton State, Utah Tech and Washington State.

UTAH'S LINE-UP
Seven Utes will be on the course on Monday and Tuesday and the list includes Javier Barcos, Davis Johnson, Braxton Watts, Martín León , Hunter Howe, Tanner Telford and Brandon Robison.

COACHES THOUGHTS: Head Coach Garrett Clegg
"We're excited for another opportunity to compete. We had some success last year here at Trysting Tree Golf Course. For me, being in contention going into the final round and having multiple individuals in the top 15-20 would be a good measuring stick, but more importantly, I would love to see us making fewer mental errors."

LAST TIME OUT
Javier Barcos posted Utah's highest finish of the year at the Hamptons Intercollegiate, placing seventh and he was also one of three Utes who claimed a spot in the top 20. Barcos began the event by posting a score of 5-over through the first 32 holes, then carded a 3-over 75 in the last round to move up three spots and record the fourth top 10 finish of his collegiate career.

Davis Johnson concluded the competition in 14th, his best finish as a Ute and it was mostly due to an excellent opening day. Johnson rebounded from a difficult finish to his initial 18 holes and shot an even-par 72 in the second round that included a stretch of 11 holes in which he was 2-under. Braxton Watts was able to climb nine spots on the leaderboard by shooting 4-over on the last day to earn a share of 16th.

TOURNAMENT DETAILS
Each day of the tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 9:15 a.m. MT. Each golfer will play 36 holes on Monday before the tournament concludes with an 18-hole final round on Tuesday. These golfers will be playing on a par-71 course that covers 7,384 yards and has a Scottish links style design.
