UCLA Takes Care of Arizona in Four Sets
TUCSON, Ariz. – Charitie Luper registered a career-high 25 kills in a double-double effort in the UCLA women's volleyball team's 3-1 victory (21-25, 25-22, 25-12, 25-16) over Arizona at the McKale Center Sunday afternoon.
The Bruins (8-7, 2-4 Pac-12) totaled 60 kills at .253 compared to the Wildcats' 42 kills at .118.
Luper's 25 kills came at a .440 clip, and defensively, she posted 11 digs and a solo block. élan McCall notched her fourth consecutive double-double with 10 kills and 13 digs.
Libero Mackenzie Cole was dominant both serving and receiving with a match-high 21 serves and 30 receptions. Cole had just one reception error.
Middle blocker Francesca Alupei continued her dominance at the net with three solo blocks and six block assists. Alupei was also 6-for-14 on her swing attempts.
Arizona won the first set with just nine kills and six attack errors. The Wildcats recorded six total blocks to hold the Bruins to .061.
It was all UCLA the rest of the way.
Cole put the Bruins out to an early 8-1 advantage thanks to a five-point run at the service line, featuring an ace. Luper went off for nine kills on just 14 attempts in the set.
The Bruins totaled 17 total kills in the frame, 14 of which were assisted on by Matti McKissock.
UCLA utilized a 17-1 run in the middle of the third set to grab hold of all momentum in the match. McKissock was at the service line for 10 straight Bruin points two of which were aces.
Arizona sided out on just seven of UCLA's 24 serves in the set.
Iman Ndiaye, Alupei and McCall each tallied three kills at a combined .563 clip.
The Bruins rode Luper in the fifth set as she achieved her career high with eight more kills (.533). Seven total Bruins notched a kill in the set.
