USC Women's Volleyball Tops Arizona State

TEMPE, Ariz. – The USC women's volleyball team (13-4, 5-1 Pac-12) secured a four-set win (18-25, 25-13, 25-23, 25-16) over Arizona State (8-10, 2-4) at Desert Financial Arena on Sunday, Oct. 9, to complete a two-match sweep of the Arizona schools.

  • Sr. OH Skylar Fields set a new career high with 27 kills (6e, 49att) while hitting .429. She also reached a new career mark of 29.0 points by adding a solo block and a service ace. Fields produced her sixth-career double-double with a 12-dig outing and made it six consecutive matches with over 20 kills and eight 20-plus kill matches this season. 
  • So. setter Mia Tuaniga put up 45 assists and 12 digs for her fifth double-double of the season (13th career). She also had two blocks (one solo) and three kills for 4.5 points.
  • Fr. LIB Gala Trubint posted 14 digs to lead the Trojans and recorded her 17th match in double-digit digs.
  • So. MB Katelyn Smith blew by her previous career high (two kills) to finish with nine kills, no errors, and a .562 hitting percentage on 16 swings. She also collected three blocks for a career-high 10.5 points. 
  • Gr. MB Kalyah Williams had six kills (2e, 17att, .235) and added six blocks (two solo) and two aces for 12.0 points.
  • For the Sun Devils, Claire Jeter led with 11 kills (16att, .688) and led ASU with five blocks. Geli Cyr scored 10 kills and had eight digs. Marta Levinska tallied nine kills and 11 digs. Annika Larson led all players with 15 digs. 


  • USC eclipsed the double-digit mark in blocks for the sixth time this fall and had a 12-9 edge in blocks over ASU. The Trojans also moved to 13-0 when they hit better than their opponent and had a .275-.179 finish over the Devils.
  • Arizona State maintained control of the first set to grab a 25-18 win. Six Trojans had kills, but ASU hit .464 with 15 kills (2e) on 28 swings led by five from Cyr and four from Iman Isanovic.
  • The Women of Troy turned the tables in set two and evened the match with a dominant 25-13 win. Fields had six of her kills and Jordan Wilson and Emilia Weske added three kills apiece. USC hit .333 (15k, 5e, 30att) but came alive for a 20-8 edge in digs to help hold the Devils to a .062 hitting percentage (7k, 5e, 32att).
  • USC led by as many as five early in the third, but the score was tied seven times, and ASU used a 4-0 run to grab the lead at 12-11. The Sun Devils stayed in front until USC caught up at 21-all. Fields had 10 kills in the set and had two of the final four points in USC's 25-23 win. The Trojans put up five blocks in the third and held ASU to .068 hitting (10k, 7e, 44att).
  • Fields came back for more in the fourth and racked up another eight kills on just nine swings. Trubint had five of her digs and the Trojans had four more blocks to close out a 25-16 win to take the match. 


  • The Women of Troy return home to host Oregon (10-3, 4-1 Pac-12) and Oregon State (6-10, 1-5) at Galen Center next weekend. USC takes on the Ducks on Friday (Oct. 14) at 8 p.m. PT and then meets the Beavers for a Sunday (Oct. 16) matinee at noon. Both matches will be shown live on the Pac-12 Networks.


  • USC improved to 74-14-1 all-time against Arizona State and extended their winning streak to four matches over ASU.
  • The Trojans improved to 61-25 all-time in the state of Arizona and to 33-9 in Tempe. It is also USC's sixth straight win in the Copper State and makes the Trojans 8-for-10 in their last 10 matches in Arizona.
  • The Women of Troy went 2-0 to sweep the Arizona schools for the 20th time in school history.
  • USC equaled its longest winning streak of the season (four) also achieved between Aug. 26-Sept. 2 and Sept. 15-22.
