Bay Area Teams Coming To Tempe This Weekend

TEMPE, Ariz. – Home again for the second week in a row, Sun Devil Volleyball hosts Cal on Friday at 5:30 p.m. MST before taking on No. 7 Stanford on Sunday at 3 p.m. MST.

Fan Information 
Friday's match will be the annual pink game to continue to raise breast cancer awareness. Multiple Sun Devil events are going on that night, though with the match starting at 5:30 p.m., there are no anticipated delays. Sunday's theme is black out, encouraging fans to wear black to match the team.

Sun Devil Outlook
Arizona State (8-10, 2-4 Pac-12)

  • Last weekend, the Sun Devils dropped both matches, first to UCLA in straight sets and then to USC in four. 
  • Senior outside hitter Iman Isanovic now has 1,192 career kills and is in sole possession of 12th place in the record book. Ahead of her is Mindy Gowell (1987-91) with 1,260 kills. Isanovic needs 104 more kills to break into the top 10.
  • Isanovic and junior Marta Levinska lead the team in total kills with 221 and 213, respectively. Two others are in triple digits in kills  as well, with sophomore outside hitter Geli Cyr earning 147 so far and junior middle blocker Claire Jeter surpassing the century mark with 105.
  • Jeter had a strong showing over the weekend, leading the team in kills against the Trojans with 11. That was her first time this season reaching double figures in kills in a match. On the year, she leads the team in blocks with 59.
  • On defense, senior Annika Larson-Nummer has been the starting libero as of late, upping her season dig total to 112. Sophomore Jaden Ravnsborg has also been the libero at times this season, earning 165 digs to lead the squad this fall.
  • Setters Shannon Shields and Ella Snyder have split the duties this season. Snyder leads the team in assists with 360 while Shields has 220. Shields notched a career-high 50 assists at Oregon State this season. 

Opponent Outlook
Cal (7-9, 0-6 Pac-12)

  • The Bears have struggled to start conference play, going winless thus far. All of the Pac-12 losses have been in straight sets except for a five-set setback against OSU. 
  • ASU swept the season series against Cal last season. The Sun Devils have won five of the last eight facing the Bears, leading 40-33 in the all-time series.

No. 7 Stanford (10-4, 5-1 Pac-12)

  • The Cardinal have lost just one conference match so far, getting swept at then-No. 21 Oregon. Last weekend, Stanford beat both mountain schools on the road.
  • Stanford has four ranked wins this season, including two against top-5 opponents in Minnesota and Nebraska. 
  • Arizona State has split the season series against Stanford in each of the past two seasons. ASU head coach Sanja Tomasevic is one of two coaches in program history to defeat the Cardinal multiple times.
