UCLA will host four regular season home gymnastics meets and the NCAA Regionals in 2023, along with the preseason Meet the Bruins exhibition on Dec. 15, 2022. Seven of UCLA's meets will be televised on Pac-12 Network, and the Feb. 3 meet at Utah will be televised on ESPN2.
The Bruins' first home meet will take place on Sunday, Jan. 29 at 3pm vs. Oregon State in a matchup between Olympic medalists Jordan Chiles of UCLA and Jade Carey of Oregon State. UCLA will also host Arizona State on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 2pm and Stanford on Sunday, March 5 at Noon. The Bruins close the regular season with a home meet against Iowa State on Senior Day on Saturday, March 11 at Noon.
The NCAA Regionals are coming to UCLA for the first time since 2010. Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom will host three days of competition from March 29-April 1. The nine-team Regional will begin on Wednesday, March 29 with a first-round dual meet matchup. Two quad meets semifinals will take place the following day on Thursday, March 30, with the top two teams from each semifinal advancing to the regional final on Saturday, April 1. The top two teams from the regional final will advance to the NCAA Championship.
UCLA road meets include conference dual meets at Washington (Jan. 21), California (Feb. 18) and Arizona (Feb. 26), and three trips to Utah - for the Wasatch Classic in West Valley City, Utah on Jan. 14 against Minnesota, Boise State and Washington, a dual meet against the Utes on Feb. 3, and the Pac-12 Championships on Mar. 18.
The Bruins are under the direction of first-year head coach Janelle McDonald, who came to UCLA after serving as an assistant coach at California from 2019-22. McDonald earned two Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) Regional Assistant Coach of the Year awards (2020, 2021). Returning gymnasts for the Bruins include Olympians Chiles and Brooklyn Moors, Olympic alternate Emma Malabuyo, and four-time All-American Chae Campbell. The four member freshman class is led Selena Harris, who was rated the No. 1 recruit in the nation by College Gym News, and two-time U.S. national team member Ciena Alipio, who won silver on beam at the U.S. Gymnastics Championships in August.
