Women's Tennis Continues to Win on Day Two of the ITA Regional

Oct 13, 2022

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA – The Utah women's tennis team continued its winning ways on the second day of the ITA Mountain Regional Championships as they went 6-1. Utah's two players, Anastasia Goncharova and Kaila Barksdale, advance to the singles draw quarterfinals.

"Another solid day for our group," remarked head coach Ric Mortera. "I thought we made some improvements in our doubles from yesterday, but we still have some things we certainly need to focus on the rest of the way. Singles wise I was happy with our efforts, and we did a good job with a lot of the adjustments that were made in our matches. We still need to execute better in some situations, but we are making some positive strides. It was a good showing today, and I am happy for the group."

The regional doubles champion and the regional singles champion and finalists qualify for the ITA National Fall Championships from November 4-7 in San Diego, California.

The third-seeded doubles team of Madison Tattini and Anastasia Goncharova opened up the second round with a win. After dropping the first set to Beltran, 6-4, Goncharova came away with the next two sets, 7-5, 6-1, to earn the victory and advance to the quarterfinals.
