Schultz, Negron Set for U23 World Championships
TEMPE - Two Sun Devils are taking it international this week for the U23 World Championships in Pontevedra, Spain. NCAA heavyweight runner up Cohlton Schultz (USA, 130 kg Greco-Roman) and first-year transfer Tony Negron (Puerto Rico, 79 kg FS) will be accompanied by coaches Frank Molinaro and Eric Thompson for the upcoming trip. 130 kg Greco-Roman competition runs October 17 and 18, while 79 kg freestyle action runs October 21 and 22. All matches will stream via FloWrestling.

Schultz is no stranger to world competition, as he is a two-time Senior World Team member and entering his seventh age-group World Championships (three-time medalist). Negron doesn't have an extensive international resumé, but he went undefeated at 3-0 to qualify for Puerto Rico's team. Schultz opens the tournament against Jonavan Smith of Puerto Rico. Freestyle draws have yet to be announced.
Schultz and Thompson have built a trusting relationship, bonding over their similar mindsets over the past year. "It is nice to have a big heavyweight who understands how wrestling changes when you get up to the upper weights," Schultz said. "Plus, he's a guy who I know is looking out for me."
This will be Negron's first international championship and first season as a Sun Devil. Accompanied by coach Molinaro, Negron will be competing in the 79 kg weight class with his qualification rounds beginning Friday, October 21st.
