ESPN's “College GameDay” heads to Eugene Saturday to feature the top-10 matchup between Chip Kelly’s ninth-ranked Bruins and the No. 10 Oregon Ducks. This is the 11th time “College GameDay” will make an appearance in Eugene, and Kelly, who is on the opposite side now, is an important factor in that number.

In the four years Kelly coached the Ducks (2009-2012), “College GameDay” came to Eugene every year of his tenure. Kelly and the Ducks had a 3-1 record in those games.

Eugene “College GameDay” appearances in the Kelly era

  • Oct. 31, 2009 - No. 10 Oregon 40, No. 4 USC 27
  • Oct. 2, 2010 - No. 4 Oregon 52, No. 9 Stanford 31
  • Oct. 15, 2011 - No. 9 Oregon 41, No. 18 Arizona State 27
  • Nov. 17, 2012 - No. 14 Stanford 17, No. 1 Oregon 14 OT

When including the two Rose Bowls and the 2010 National Championship that Kelly’s Ducks appeared in, Oregon was the “College GameDay” game of the week 12 times under Kelly.

  • Nov. 21, 2009 - No. 11 Oregon 41, Arizona 44, 2OT (Tucson, Ariz.)
  • Jan. 1, 2010 - No. 8 Ohio State 26, No. 7 Oregon 17 (Pasadena, Calif.)
  • Oct. 30, 2010 - No. 1 Oregon 53, No. 24 USC 32 (Los Angeles, Calif.)
  • Dec. 4, 2010 - No. 1 Oregon 37, Oregon State 20 (Corvallis, Ore.)

  • Jan. 2, 2012 - No. 6 Oregon 45, No. 9 Wisconsin 38 (Pasadena, Calif.)

The “College GameDay'' history between these two programs goes even further than Kelly. Of course, these two teams met last season in Los Angeles, where the Ducks won 34-31. Oregon’s first-ever “College GameDay” appearance was at the Rose Bowl in 1998 against UCLA. The first time “College GameDay” went to Eugene was when Oregon hosted the Bruins in 2000. Oregon and UCLA also met in 2013 in Eugene for a “College GameDay” appearance.

  • Oct. 22, 2022 - No. 9 UCLA at No. 10 Oregon (Eugene, Ore.)

Kelly has plenty of experience being a part of college football’s national pregame show. Saturday is also an opportunity for first-year Oregon head coach Dan Lanning to make a statement and make “College GameDay” a yearly occurrence again in Eugene.
