Women's Basketball Receiving Votes In AP Top 25

SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah women's basketball team is receiving votes in the Associated Press Top 25 Preseason Poll that was announced on Tuesday. 
The Utes will open the season on Thursday, Oct. 27, with their fifth annual Future-Scholars game against Northwest Nazarene, with tip happening at 11 a.m. from the Jon M. Huntsman Center. This will be one of two exhibition games on the season. Utah will host Westminster for its second exhibition contest on Tuesday, Nov. 1.

Utah brings back eight players from last year's squad, including 2021-22 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year Gianna Kneepkens. Kneepkens was also a First Team All-Pac-12 and Pac-12 All-Freshman honoree. She finished the season averaging 11.8 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. 
 Also returning are Kennady McQueen and Jenna Johnson. McQueen was a Pac-12 honorable mention, and she averaged 9.6 points and 3.7 rebounds per game. Johnson was a Pac-12 All-Freshman team selection, as she averaged 12.0 points and 4.1 rebounds per game. 
The Utes welcome in transfer Alissa Pili to the mix. Pili, who transferred from Southern California, is in her first year as a Ute. In three seasons with Southern California, Pili appeared in 63 games and was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year following the 2019-20 season. 
 Freshmen Lani WhiteNaya Ojukwu, and Teya Sidberry join the Utes this season. White joins the Utes from Irvine, Calif., and was a member of the Mater Dei HS women's basketball team. She was a Second Team All-State selection following the 2019 and 2020 seasons. Ojukwu comes to the Utes from Mountain View HS in Meridian, Idaho. She was named the 2020-21 Idaho Gatorade Player of the year and 2020-21 MaxPreps Idaho Player of the Year. Sidberry, an SLC native, joins the Utes after a successful four-year career at Judge Memorial HS that saw her break the Utah women's basketball career scoring record. 
During the 2021-22 season, head coach Lynne Roberts led the Utes to a 21-win season for the first time since 2018-19 and the 29th 20-win season in program history. The Utes advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2011 after making an incredible run in the Pac-12 tournament, winning three games in three nights to earn a spot in the championship game for the first time in program history.
Utah was the highest-scoring team in the Pac-12 (17th NCAA), averaging 75.9 points per game, which is the fourth-highest figure in school history and the highest since 1980-81. Utah also led the Pac-12 in three-pointers made (7th NCAA; school-record 312), three-point attempts (7th NCAA; 876), assists per game (39th NCAA; 15.3), free throws made (18th NCAA; 469), and free throw attempts (43rd NCAA; 602).
