Avery 70 Pacing USC Women's Golf In Stanford Intercollegiate First Round

Amari Avery fired a 1-under 70 Friday, her fifth round under par in 10 outings this Fall.

Sophomore Amari Avery fired her fifth round under par this season while sophomore Xin (Cindy) Kou and freshman Catherine Park turned in par rounds to lead the No. 11 USC women's golf team in the Stanford Intercollegiate on Friday (Oct. 21).

The Trojans, with one win in three events this year, are tied for sixth in the 18-team event after a par 284. Host and top-ranked Stanford leads at 8-under. USC is three back of third.

Avery is tied for 15th with a 1-under 70, her first round highlighted by three straight birdies between 17 and 1. It marks the fourth straight first-round in which she's carded a par or better round.

Park and Kou are tied for 22nd at par. Park turned at 2-over but squared her round with birdies on 3 and 6. Kou turned at 1-over before evening her day with a birdie on 8.

Junior Brianna Navarrosa is tied for 30th at 1-over, a bogey on her final hole costing her a par round, while junior Christine Wang finished at 12-over.

The tournament continues Saturday and Sunday.
