Women’s Tennis Picks Up Five Wins on Day Two of Texas A&M Invite

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Utah Women's Tennis team finished play on their second day at the Texas A&M Fall Invitational in College Station, Texas. The Utes claimed five wins on the second day of the Invite. 

"We are learning a lot on this trip, and I am happy with some of the adjustments the team was able to make from yesterday," remarked head coach Ric Mortera. "It's been a great weekend of competitive situations that will continue to help us grow. I am looking forward to getting another good day of competition tomorrow."
 
The Utes started the day off in doubles against Texas Tech. Samantha Horwood and Katya Hersh were able to clinch Utah's only doubles victory of the day over Olivia Peet and Camryn Stepp, 6-4.
 
Madison Tattini and Anastasia Goncharova lost to Metca Komac and Cristina Tiglea, 6-2. After defeating Yekaterina Dmitrichenko yesterday in singles, Marcela Lopez teamed up with Kaila Barksdale to play against the Red Raiders and her partner, Avelina Sayfetdinova. The Utes were defeated 6-3. 
 
Horwood then claimed her second win of the day in singles as she defeated Texas A&M's Lizanne Boyer, 6-4, 6-1. Hersh followed her doubles partner's lead and claimed a singles victory against Whitney Robbins from Arkansas, 6-0, 6-4. 
 
Barksdale went head-to-head with Arkansas' Lenka Stara and lost the first set, 6-1, and the second in tie-breakers, 7-6(3). Lopez played another Arkansas Razorback, Yuhan Liu. She was defeated, 7-5, 6-3.
 
Tattini battled against Grace O'Donnell from Arkansas and won 6-3, 6-4. This was the fourth win of the day for the Utes. Goncharova claimed the last match of the day against Razorback Morgan McCarthy. She defeated her opponent 6-2 in both sets for Utah's fifth win of the day. 
 
Utah will be back in action for its last day at the Texas A&M Fall Invitational on Sunday.
