Beavers Place 8th at Head of the Charles

Oct 23, 2022

CORVALLIS, Ore. –  The Oregon State men's rowing team placed eighth in the men's championship fours at the Head of the Charles to open the fall season.

The Beavers improved one spot on their finish from 2021 and placed seventh among collegiate boats in the 17-team field. OSU placed within 45 seconds of the winner Peloton 'A' and just 16 seconds behind the best college boat.

"Today was a perfect weather for racing. Flat water, the trees were at peak foliage and no wind. It is such a fun race and the guys stepped up in such a fast field. These are the best rowers in the world and the Beavs held their own," head coach Gabe Winkler said. "It's a coxswain race and the word I heard from those on the bridges is that Ethan deBorja took a tight line. The crazy thing is that there are a lot of guys back home that matched these guys' speed last week in training. Hats off to the alums for finishing in the top 20. The Charles did not disappoint and we're already planning for next year!"

The Oregon State alumni also competed at Head of the Charles, taking 20th in a highly competitive field.

Oregon State returns to action next weekend at the Portland Fall Classic.
