Arizona Drops Beavers

Oct 27, 2022

TUCSON, Ariz. – Hosts Arizona overcame the early McKenna Martinez goal to take a 3-2 decision in Tucson over the Oregon State women's soccer team on Thursday night.

Martinez's unassisted fourth minute goal – and ninth of 2022 - opened the scoring in the road contest and gave the Beavers (4-10-3, 0-8-1 Pac-12) the early advantage. The Wildcats (7-6-3, 4-4-1) responded with three goals in a 19-minute stretch to grab a lead they would not give up.

Following a misplayed tackle inside the 18-yard box and a yellow card on Arizona's Angela Baron, Abby Schwartz buried the penalty kick to the left to trim the deficit back to just one goal with 18 minutes left.

Proving to be not out of it, Oregon State kept pushing for the equalizer with consecutive corners in the 89th and 90th minutes.

In net, Hailey Coll stopped seven shots in 90 minutes of work. Martinez led the Beavers' offense with a trio of shots toward Arizona's Hope Hisey, while three – Schwartz, Skylar Herrera and Valerie Tobias – added one apiece.

The Beavers will continue the road trip with a matchup against Arizona State on Sunday. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. in Tempe.
