Paul Nets Game-Winner In 90th Minute

Oct 27, 2022

BERKELEY, Calif. – Ilijah Paul notched the game-winner in the 90th minute sealing Washington's 2-1 victory over Cal on Thursday afternoon to stay on top of the Pac-12 standings.

The No. 1 Huskies move to 13-0-2 on the season with a 5-0-1 mark in Pac-12 action. The 15-match unbeaten streak matches a program record to start a season which was set in 2013 when Washington started the year 11-0-4.

Paul's goal at 89:51 just missed the latest regulation goal in program history, which was scored by Seth Marsh vs. Portland in 2001 at 89:53.

Jadon Bowton recorded three saves in the contest, as the Washington defense limited Cal to just nine shots on the day, only four on goal.

Off the set piece in the 32nd minute, Chris Meyers sent the corner kick into the box for Nick Scardina to put Washington up 1-0. Meyers now leads the team with nine assists.

The Golden Bears leveled the score in the 35th minute on a penalty kick.

In the final seconds of the match, Paul hit the game-winner for his team-leading 10th goal of the season off the assist by Gabe Threadgold.

Up next, Washington heads to Stanford for a Top-5 matchup with the Cardinal on Sunday afternoon on The Farm.
