Men Place Fifth, Women take Eighth at Pac-12 Cross Country Championships

Riverside, Calif. – The UCLA Cross Country teams competed in the Pac-12 Cross Country Championships hosted by USC in Riverside, Calif., on Friday. The men's team brought home a fifth-place finish and the women finished in eighth.
 
Emma Tavella was the top runner once again for the Bruin women, placing 30th in the conference meet. Tavella crossed the line in 20:04.7 in the 6k race. Sophomore Mia Kane (20:32.4) was UCLA's second runner, placing 45th in the meet. Angelina Shandro trailed just behind, crossing in 20:29.8 for 48th place. Freshman Kaho Cichon (20:43.9) and sophomore Anna Weirich (20:52.4) rounded out the scorers for UCLA, who ran 10 student-athletes in the race.
 
In the second race of the day, Ronan McMahon-Staggs and Peter Herold got off to a hot start at the UC Riverside Agricultural Operations Course, sitting in the top 20 in the first 2000 meters of the race.  Herold crossed the line in 16th place, running a 23:15.8 to secure the top-20 finish. Michael Mireles ran a consistent race to earn 22nd-place, posting a 23:35.5. McMahon-Staggs was the Bruins' third runner, finishing in 28th place. Freshman Jai Dawson (24:30.2) and junior Anthony Stone (24:35.5) finished 45th and 46th, respectively, to complete the Bruins' scoring five.
