PCCSC Fall Women's Champions

Oct 31, 2022

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - The No. 4 Stanford women's sailing team earned a conference title over the weekend, taking the top spot in the PCCSC Fall Women's fleet race Championship. It marked Stanford's fourth overall conference title of the fall after claiming both PCCSC Singlehanded and the Match Race titles earlier this season.

"The effort last weekend was completely a team effort," said Head Sailing Coach Chris Klevan. "The young women from the class of 2026, Vanessa, Izzy, Ellie and Sophie, represented the team well with the support of the more experienced on the team; Michelle, Hannah, Abby, AnaClare and Trish. It was fun to see the next generation shine under the watchful eye of our veterans."

The regatta began on Saturday with a great day of racing and wind throughout. 18 total races were sailed on the first day, with Stanford taking first place in each of the nine A division races.

Vanessa Lahrkamp skippered the A division boat for all nine races, while Isabelle McNabb and AnaClare Sole split the crew duties on the day.

In the B division, Stanford took the top spot to the tune of 28 points, helping the Cardinal combine for only 37 points on day one, 50 points ahead of second place Hawaii. Sophie Fisher sailed all the B division races, crewing the first five with Ellie Harned before taking over the skipper duties.

Abigail Tindall wrapped up the crew duties, racing with Fisher at the helm for the final three races of the day.

The second day looked much like the first as the Cardinal claimed the top spot in each of the seven A division races as Vanessa Lahrkamp and Isabelle McNabb handled the A division events. Stanford was strong in B division again as well, finishing the second day with 16 points.

Sophie Fisher and Hannah Freeman shared the skipper role in the B division, while Ellie Harned and Fisher each raced in the crew role as well. Stanford went on to record 23 points on day two, ahead of second place Hawaii with 82.

The Cardinal is back in action this upcoming weekend at the ICSA Singlehanded Championship, hosted by Old Dominion University.
