Cal junior goalie Adrian Weinberg has been named the MPSF Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
Weinberg played a pivotal role in the No. 2 Bears' 10-9 overtime win at No. 1 UCLA on Saturday. He registered 14 saves and four steals, and anchored a defense that held the Bruins scoreless for 16 minutes, 17 seconds to help Cal erase an 8-5 deficit and force overtime.
Weinberg recorded crucial saves on the final possession of regulation and the second overtime to spark the victory, and also saved a UCLA penalty shot in the first overtime session.
This marks the second career MPSF Player of the Week honor for Weinberg and the second week in a row that a Cal player has garnered the honor. Sophomore attacker Max Casabella earned the award last week.
The Bears, who figure to move into the No. 1 spot in the CWPA Top-20 later this week, visit No. 14 San Jose State on Sunday at 12 p.m. PT.
