Football Debuts at No. 12 in Initial CFB Rankings

UCLA was listed at No. 12 in the initial College Football Playoff Selection Committee rankings of the 2022 season which were announced on Tuesday evening. It is the 11th overall appearance for the Bruins in the CFP rankings and its highest ranking ever in the first listing of a season.
 
The highest UCLA has been listed in the CFP rankings overall was No. 8 on November 25, 2014 after it defeated USC 38-20. It is the first time UCLA has been in the CFP rankings since it was listed No. 22 on November 24, 2015 after it dealt Utah a 17-9 decision in Salt Lake City.
 
The College Football Playoff matches the No. 1 ranked team vs. No. 4, and No. 2 vs. No. 3 in semifinal games that rotate annually among six bowl games – the Goodyear Cotton Bowl, Vrbo Fiesta Bowl, Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, Capital One Orange Bowl, Allstate Sugar Bowl and Rose Bowl Game.

This season's Playoff Semifinals will take place Saturday, December 31, 2022 at the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl and Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl. Los Angeles will host the College Football Playoff National Championship on Monday, January 9, 2023, at SoFi Stadium.
