Getting to Know U: Freshman Teya Sidberry

Utah women's basketball signed a talented local player for the upcoming season. Today we hear from Teya Sidberry, a forward from Salt Lake City, Utah. She was a three-time (2019-20, 2020-21, and 2021-22) 3A State Player of the Year in Utah. During her senior season at Judge Memorial High School, Sidberry set the career all-time scoring mark. She averaged a double-double with 29.6 points and 12.7 rebounds as a junior.  
 
Sidberry recently caught up with UtahUtes.com to chat about why she is looking forward to this season, what made her fall in love with the game, and what her dream job is after graduation.

Q: When did you start playing basketball? Who was your favorite player growing up?  
A: My favorite player is Magic Johnson, but I love Lebron James too, and we also have the same birthday! 
 
Q: What about the sport of basketball made you fall in love with it? 
A: My family has always loved basketball, and I loved the competitive nature of the sport and being able to compete against my older brothers. 
 
Q: What about the University of Utah made you want to continue your
career here? 
A: I love the competitive atmosphere and positive atmosphere at the U. 
  
Q: What has been your favorite part about playing basketball at Utah so far? 
A: I have loved being challenged! 
  
Q: Who in your life has been the most influential in getting you where you are today? 
A: My mom is hardworking and inspires me daily to be my best. 
  
Q: What is your dream job, and why?  
A: I want to play basketball for as long as I can. I also want to go into medicine and be a traveling doctor, like doctors without borders, 
  
Q: What was it like growing up in your hometown? Any specific memories that stand out?  
A: I had a fun childhood, and I was never bored. 
  
Q: What is your favorite basketball moment growing and why? 
A: My favorite basketball moment would be winning state for the first time in my school's history. 
  
Q: What is something people might not know about you? 
A: I danced competitively until I got into high school. 
  
Q: What are you most looking forward to this season? 
A: I am looking forward to the great competition in this conference. 
   
Q: If you could tell our fans one thing, what would it be?
