Beavers Battle Ducks to Rainy Draw

Nov 4, 2022

EUGENE, Ore. – In the season finale, the Oregon State women's soccer team drew the Oregon Ducks with a 2-2 score at a rainy Pape Field in Eugene on Friday night.

The hosts opened the scoring with a 28th minute goal but was matched 12 minutes later following a Sawyer Service goal from an assist by Reese Moffatt on a corner kick. Stretching back to the last game, it marked the third consecutive OSU goal off a corner.

Neither side willing to give in for the second half's first 15 minutes, the Beavers pounced on a misplayed Ducks opportunity and took advantage. After passes by Amaya Bautista and Amber Jackson, McKenna Martinez sent the ball past UO's Leah Freeman for the 2-1 lead. Nearly 10 minutes later, Oregon spoiled the Beavers' momentum with the equalizing goal just before the clock read 83'.

Oregon State (5-10-4) outshot the Ducks by a 14-12 margin, including an 8-6 edge in shots on goal.

Martinez led the Beavers with seven shots – five of which toward Freeman – and the 73rd minute goal, while the other goal scorer – Service – tallied a pair, one being the 40th minute score. Five other Beavers – Lindsay Antonson, Sophie Conrad, Amber Jackson, Moffatt and Bryana Pizarro – each registered a shot. Hailey Coll, a Eugene native, made four stops in net through the entire 90.

Service's goal to get OSU on level terms came just one minute after coming into the match for Gwen Jacobs in the 39th minute.

With the 73rd minute goal, Martinez scored her 10th of the season, marking her second consecutive campaign with at least 10. She racked up a dozen last season.
