Jon Gaines II was named the Pac-12 Offensive Line Player of the Week in the league's Monday announcement of the Pac-12 Football Performance Awards presented by Nextiva. This is the first weekly honor for the Bruin senior.
Gaines led a productive offensive line performance by the Bruins which helped generate 402 rushing yards in last Saturday's win at Arizona State. UCLA ran 42 times for a 9.6 yards per carry average while racking up a season-high rushing total. The Bruins reached the 400-yard rushing mark for the first time since a 2010 game against Washington State.
The Bruin rushing effort came within two yards of producing three 100-yard rushers in a game for the first time since 1969. Quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson (120 yards) and running backs Kazmeir Allen (137) and Keegan Jones (98) each registered career-high totals on the ground during the game.
UCLA also compiled 571 yards of total offense in the contest and averaged 9.2 yards per play overall against the Sun Devils. It marks the sixth game this season in which the Bruins have gained at least 200 yards on the ground (also Bowling Green 269, Alabama State 220, Colorado 249, Utah 203, Stanford 324). It was the fifth time this season that UCLA has exceeded the 500-yard mark for total offense in a game (also Bowling Green 626, Colorado, 515, Utah 502, Stanford 523).
Gaines and the Bruins will host Arizona on Saturday night in Rose Bowl Stadium. The FOX broadcast is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. PT. The kickoff time for the game against Southern California on Nov. 19 will be either 5 or 7:30 p.m. PT and will be announced after the completion of Saturday's games.
