Kelsey Branson Tabbed Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week

Nov 7, 2022

SAN FRANCISCO – Two days after leading the Huskies to their first win in Pullman since 1996, true freshman Kelsey Branson has been named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week, announced Monday by the league office.

The Cathedral Catholic High School product becomes the second Husky this season to earn a Pac-12 Weekly Award, joining Shae Holmes, who pulled down defensive player of the week honors earlier in the season.

Branson led the charge in the Dawgs' 3-2 comeback victory over the Cougars in the Boeing Apple Cup Series matchup, scoring the game-winner in the 70th minute. The San Diego native also dished out an assist on Summer Yates' goal that tied the match at 2-2.

Beating the WSU offside trap, Branson brought down Elena Palacios' bending cross with her chest. The rookie then swung with her left and sent a shot to the far post, sneaking it inside the post and into the side netting to give UW the Apple Cup victory.

The goal was Branson's fifth of her freshman campaign, four of which have come during Pac-12 play. She capped the regular season with 14 total points, tied for the third most on the team.
