No. 8 USC Football Resumes Homestand With Friday Matchup vs. Colorado

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS

*The Trojans have a Friday night match up against the Colorado Buffaloes on Nov. 11 under the Coliseum lights.

*Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. PT, and the game will be broadcast nationally on FS1.

*USC is ranked No. 8 in the AP Poll and No. 7 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

*In the first CFP Rankings, USC was No. 9

*USC is off to its first 8-1 start since the 2008 season

*Lincoln Riley is the first USC head coach to start his career 8-1 since John Robinson started 8-1 in 1976.

*Riley is also the first Trojan head coach other than Pete Carroll to start any season 8-1 or better since Larry Smith went 10-0 in 1988.

CALIFORNIA GAME RECAP

*QB Caleb Williams threw for 360 yards and 4 TDs in USC's 41-35 victory over California on Saturday, Nov. 5 in the Coliseum.

*He went 26-of-41 (.634) with zero INTs. He also rushed for 38 yards and 1 TD.

*In his last three games, Caleb Williams has passed for 1,152 yards with 14 TDs and no interceptions

*Since the 2004 football season, no QB has thrown more TDs through their first 9 games while also throwing 1 or fewer INTs than Williams with 28 TDs and 1 INT. Through their first 9 games, Justin Fields of Ohio State had 27 TDs and 1 INT in 2019, and Tua Tagovailoa had 27 TDs and 1 INT in 2018.

*This is the second time in the last four seasons that a USC QB has had 5 games with 340+ passing yards. Kedon Slovis had 5 games with 340+ yards in 2019.

*Williams is currently No. 3 in the nation in passing TDs (28) and leads the Pac-12 Conference. He is also No. 4 in the nation in points responsible for per game (21.3), No. 5 in the nation in points responsible for (192), No. 5 in the nation for total offense (336.6), No. 7 in the nation in passing efficiency (166.1), No. 9 in the nation in passing yards (2,742) and No. 10 in the nation in passing yards per game (304.7).

*With both WRs Jordan Addison and Mario Williams still out, WR Tahj Washington continued his outstanding play. He had another 100+ yard game with 7 receptions for 112 yards and 1 TD

*WR Michael Jackson III had 5 receptions to lead the team with 115 yards and 2 TDs.

*Jackson III continues to makes the most of his touches as he has recorded 9 receptions on the season with 3 TDs.

*TE Lake McRee also caught a TD pass in the fourth quarter.

*RB Travis Dye led the team with 98 rushing yards on 15 carries and scored 1 TD.

*It was his eighth consecutive game with a rushing TD.

*The last Trojan with a rushing TD in 8 or more consecutive games in 1 season was Marcus Allen in 1981 when he scored a rushing TD in 9 consecutive games. QB Williams also rushed for 38 yards and 1 TD.

*On the defensive side of the ball, DL Tuli Tuipulotu recorded 4 tackles, with 2.5 for loss of 11 yards and 2 sacks for 10 yards.

*Tuipulotu now leads the nation in sacks with 9.0 on the season (1.00 per game). He is also currently No. 4 in the nation in tackles for loss with 1.7 per game, and leads the Pac-12 Conference in the stat.

*Bryson Shaw led the team with 11 tackles.

*He also won Pac-12 Defensive Lineman of the Week for his performance in the Cal game. This is his third Pac-12 Defensive Lineman of the Week honor this season.

*DB Calen Bullock recorded an INT in the second quarter, picking off Cal QB Jack Plummer

*Bullock leads the team with 3 INTs this season and has 5 career INTs

*DL Nick Figueroa blocked Cal's extra point attempt in the fourth quarter. It was the first blocked kick of the season for the Trojans.

*DBs Mekhi Blackmon, Bryson Shaw, Jacobe Covington and Calen Bullock each recorded 1 PBU.

*USC held Cal to 63 rushing yards, a season low for a Trojan opponent

*USC had 515 yards in total offense. The Trojans have had 6 games with at least 500 yards of total offense this season.

COLORADO SCOUTING REPORT

*The Colorado Buffaloes are 1-8 overall and 1-5 in Pac-12 Conference play.

*Colorado fired head coach Karl Dorrell after the team started 0-5, and also fired defensive coordinator Chris Wilson.

*Offensive coordinator Mike Sanford stepped in to serve as interim head coach.

*Defensive line coach Gerald Chatman was named the interim defensive coordinator.

*QB J.T. Shrout, who has taken over the QB1 spot, is 56-for-130 with 5 TDs and 4 INTs.

*WR Jordyn Tyson has 3 TDs on the season with 17 receptions for 333 yards.

*In Colorado's game against Oregon, Tyson was injured in the fourth quarter and had to be helped off the field. Coach Sanford called it a "significant injury".

*Before Tyson's injury, he caught 5 passes for 137 yards, the most by a Buff since 2019, and 1 TD.

*In addition to Tyson, WR Daniel Arias (19 receptions for 209 yards and 1 TD) and WR Montana Lemonious-Craig (17 receptions for 243 yards and 2 TDs) are Colorado's highest producing wide outs.

*RB Deion Smith leads the Buffs with 368 rushing yards on 70 carries with 2 TDs.

*On the defensive side of the ball, DB Trevor Woods and LB Josh Chandler-Semedo lead the Buffs with 68 tackles each.

*Chandler-Semedo also leads the team with 10 tackles for loss this season and 2.5 sacks.

*DBs Isaiah Lewis, Trevor Woods and Tyrin Taylor each have recorded 1 INT.

*PK Cole Becker is 10-for-12 on field goals this season with a long of 49 yards.

RANKINGS

*USC is ranked No. 8 in the latest AP Poll and 7th in the USA Today Coaches Poll. Cal is not ranked. In the initial CFP rankings (which comes out on Tuesdays), the Trojans hold the No. 9 spot.

SERIES

*USC has won all 15 of its meetings with Colorado while outscoring the Buffaloes 522-234.

*USC is 7-0 against Colorado in the Coliseum.

*Behind key offensive showings by WR Drake London, TB Keaontay Ingram and QB Kedon Slovis and a stout performance by its defense, USC dominated Colorado, 37-14, before 48,197 fans in Boulder during their 2021 contest. This victory kept USC undefeated against Colorado in its 15 meetings in the series. Overall, USC more than doubled CU in total yards (a season-best 494 to 242) while averaging 7.7 yards per play. The Trojans' 218 rushing output was a season high. USC also had more first downs, 20 to 11, and limited CU to 1-of-10 on third downs and 0-1 on fourth downs. The Trojans posted 5 sacks. Slovis hit 19-of-29 passes for 276 yards, London had 9 receptions for 130 yards and Ingram ran for 124 yards on 14 carries (the first 100-yard rushing game by a Trojan in 2021). TB Darwin Barlow added 61 yards on 10 carries and WR Tahj Washington had 3 catches for 46 yards. ILB Kana'i Mauga led USC with 8 tackles. DL Drake Jackson and DL Jacob Lichtenstein each had 2 sacks. *USC has won 69.8% (488-203-29) of its games against current Pac-12 opponents (does not include 9 wins later vacated due to NCAA penalty; original record: 497-203-29, 70.2%).
