Oregon State Gymnastics Announces Four To 2023 Signing Class

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Head coach Tanya Chaplin added four new members to the GymBeavs family during National Signing Day on Wednesday for the 2023-24 season.

Joining the reigning Pac-12 Regular Season Champions are Olivia Buckner (Riverton, Utah / Olympus Gymnastics), Taylor DeVries (Roscoe, Ill. / Legacy Elite Gymnastics), Sophia Esposito (Melville, N.Y. / New Image Gymnastics) and Mia Heather (San Francisco, Calif. / San Mateo Gymnastics).

"We're thrilled to welcome Olivia, Taylor, Sophia and Mia to our program," said Chaplin. "Each gymnast brings a unique skill set to the team and will help continue the legacy of Oregon State gymnastics. We can't wait to have each of these talented student-athletes on campus and a part of our GymBeav family."

Buckner, the daughter of Stephanie and Brandon Buckner, is a five-time USAG Utah state champion, winning twice on vault and once on bars, floor and the all-around competition. The Riverton, Utah product has also captured four USAG Region I titles on vault, floor, bars and all-around. As a member of the USAG Development Program, Buckner, earned three top-10 finishes finishing fourth on vault and floor, while taking eighth in the all-around. Buckner competed at the club level for Olympus Gymnastics under the direction of coaches Ryan Kirkham and Jessica McDonough.

DeVries, the daughter of Beth and John DeVries, joins the Beavs as the 2022 USAG Region V Champion on beam, bars and all-around being named to the Region V All-Star Team for the performance. The Roscoe, Illinois native is a four-time Level 10 USAG Development Program National Qualfier, earning a top-10 performance in the all-around. On bars, DeVries, picked up a sixth place and ninth place finish at USAG Nationals. DeVries competed at the club level for Legacy Elite Gymnastics under the direction of coaches Anna Li, Yuejiu Li and Jiani Wu.

Esposito, the daughter of Christine and Matthew Esposito, brings 11 USAG Region VI Championships to the Beavs, as a four-time floor champion, three-time vault champion, two-time all-around champion and beam champion. The Melville, New York product adds nine USAG New York Level 10 State Championships, capturing three on vault, two all-around titles and one each on beam and floor. Esposito is a four-time USAG DP National Championship Qualifier, winning a pair of national titles on vault, while also nailing two top-10 finishes in the all-around, taking third and seventh. Esposito competed at the club level for New Image Gymnastics under the direction of coach Tatiana Ambova.

Heather, the daughter of Tracey and Brendan Heather, comes to Corvallis as the 2022 USAG NorCal Champion on bars, while also being named a 2019 Junior Elite. The San Francisco product took home three titles at the 2019 USAG Region I Championship, winning the all-around, beam and bars. In 2018, Heather, finished four on beam at the USAG DP Level 10 Nationals. Heather competed at the club level for San Mateo Gymnastics under the direction of coaches Armen Astoian and Oksana Bystrova.

The Beavs open the season with their annual Orange and Black intrasquad meet on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 1 p.m. inside of legendary Gill Coliseum. Admission for the scrimmage is free.
