Cross Country Heads to the NCAA Western Regional Championships

Nov 10, 2022

UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. – The University of Arizona Cross Country team will prepare for the 2022 NCAA Western Regional Championships on Friday, Nov. 11.

Hosted by the University of Washington, the meet will take place at the Chambers Creek Regional Park (Chambers Bay Golf Course). The event will get started at 11:00 a.m. MST with the women's 6k and will be followed by the men's 10k at 12:00 p.m. MST. Live results for both events can be found here.
The West Regional follows Arizona's last outing at the Pac-12 Championships in Riverside, Calif. Once again, the women's side was led by Grace Driskill in the 6k. Driskill has finished first for the women in all of the events she's competed in this year. Sailor Hutton finished second for the team and Alisa Lyesina finished third. Mia Chavez was the team's fourth place finisher, while Johnnie Mitchell finished fifth and was the lone Wildcat to improve her personal best.
Similar to Driskill, Ian Sanchez Lopez continued his streak of finishing first overall for the men's team in the 8k. Cooper Quigley and Noah Jodon both stepped up as well to finish second and third for the team. Additionally, Iker Sanchez Lopez placed fourth for the men and Brennan Foody placed fifth. The West Regional will also mark the first time this year where the men will run a 10k instead of an 8k.
Last year, both the men and women did not end up competing as a team at the Western Regionals. This year, the young squad will get the opportunity to experience a meet of this caliber with a very deep field.
The top two teams from each regional, along with 13 at-large teams, will qualify for the NCAA Championships. Furthermore, the top four individual finishers from each regional, along with two at-large runners, who are not on a qualifying team will also make it to the NCAA Championships.
A meet recap will be posted to detailing the competition results. Live updates will also be posted to @ArizonaTrack on Twitter.
